Manufacturing industry during the first four months of 2020 in Slovakia

The production of transport equipment reached only 21.1% of the volume in April 2020 compared to the same period last year.

In April, industrial production reached an all-time low since the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic, falling by 42% year-on-year. The decrease was mainly due to a sharp decrease in the production of transport equipment by 78.9%. This situation was significantly affected by the cessation or restriction of production at four Slovak car manufacturers as well as production restrictions at subcontractors throughout the automotive industry, which responded to the measures taken against the spread of COVID-19 in Europe.

Industrial production (IndP) fell by 42% year on year in April. Development by SK sections of NACE Rev. 2 was affected by a decrease in industrial production by 47.4%, supply of electricity, gas, steam and cold air by 3.7% and in mining and quarrying by 0.3%.

Of the total of 15 special groupings of industrial branches, the most significant decrease was recorded in manufacture of vehicles by 78.9%, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 42.9%, manufacture of machinery and equipment (not included in specific group) by 34.5%, manufacture of basic metals and of metal structures except machinery and equipment by 26.2% and manufacture of electrical equipment by 41.8%.
